The purpose of this chapter is to provide compensation to all firefighters
who have volunteered and have received an emergency medical technician certification;
they shall be paid the sum of $500 per year in two payments: $250 in March
and $250 in September payable by voucher to those employees who have satisfactorily
completed and have received emergency medical technician certificates.
A.
Firefighters who volunteer to take the emergency medical
technician certification course shall take that course during their regular
working hours and shall be paid for that time. If a firefighter taking the
course is not on duty during the taking of the course, he shall receive compensatory
time off for all such time of the course. The City shall bear the expense
of the course.
B.
Every three years, an emergency medical technician refresher
course must be taken to maintain the emergency medical technician certificate.
The cost of said refresher course will be paid by the employee. If said refresher
course is not satisfactorily completed, the employee will no longer receive
additional compensation.
A.
All firefighters who have satisfactorily completed and
have received an emergency medical technician certificate may be assigned
to drive an ambulance or perform the duties of an ambulance attendant in an
emergency situation.
B.
All firefighters who are asked to perform any duties
related to emergency ambulance service will be covered by the same liability
insurance as ambulance attendants.
C.
All firefighters who are asked to perform any duties
related to emergency ambulance service shall be allowed to wear customary
uniform.
As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings
indicated:
