Adoption of local laws and ordinances — See Ch. 26.
Upon receipt of a petition seeking a referendum, and before filing, the Town Clerk shall consult with the Town Attorney (or either the Town's attorney for the Zoning Board of Appeals or Planning Board, in the event of the unavailability of the Town Attorney) with respect to the petition's sufficiency for filing. This consultation notwithstanding, the determination as to whether to accept the petition for filing belongs solely to the Town Clerk.
Upon receipt of a petition seeking a referendum, the Town Clerk shall immediately provide a copy of that petition to the Town Supervisor.
Upon filing a petition seeking a referendum, the Town Clerk shall provide copies to each member of the Town Board as follows:
A. 
By placing a telephone call to the last known place of residence of the Town Board member (or such other telephone number as may have been provided to the Town Clerk by the Board member) to arrange for the pickup or delivery of the same;
B. 
By mailing a copy by overnight mail to the last known address of the Town Board member, if pickup or delivery cannot be arranged; and
C. 
By scanning the petition and e-mailing the same to the Town Board member's last known e-mail address (if any).
