The Museum Committee of the Township of Readington is hereby established
pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:63-7 and any other applicable statutes.

The Committee shall consist of seven voting members, who are appointed
by and will work under the auspices of the Readington Township Committee for
the care, maintenance and operation of the Township's museums. A member's
term shall be for three years, or until a successor is duly appointed. The
Committee will recommend candidates to the Township Committee for consideration.
When appointing/recommending Committee members, consideration will be given
to a broad representation of various community interests and organizations.
Committee members are expected to attend at least one half of the yearly meetings.
A vacancy in any office shall be filled for the remainder of its term
by recommendation of the Museum Committee to the Township Committee at a duly
convened meeting.

Committee meetings will be held monthly. Action at meetings requires
a quorum of the Committee (four members). A schedule will be determined at
the first meeting of each calendar year and will be given to the Township
Clerk for advertising.
The Committee shall make recommendations to the Township Committee regarding
paid positions required to support the efforts of the Museum Committee. These
positions shall operate under the direction of the Museum Committee. The Museum
Committee will participate in the drafting of job descriptions and shall make
specific hiring recommendations to the Township Committee.

The Committee may, by resolution, designate one or more
subcommittees; each subcommittee shall have and may exercise powers as provided
by the Committee. Such subcommittees shall have such names and responsibilities
as the Committee may determine.

Each subcommittee shall keep regular minutes of its meetings
and report the same to the Committee at its monthly meetings.

The Committee's subcommittees may include, but may
not be limited to: acquisitions, activities and programs, building and grounds,
exhibits, finance and budget, friends group, personnel, public relations,
and policies.

Each subcommittee shall include at least one member of
the Museum Committee and other members deemed qualified by the Committee.

The Museum Finance Subcommittee shall consist of four
voting members of the Committee, elected by the Committee.
B.Â
Museum funds shall not be expended without the authorization
of at least two designated members of the Museum Committee. No funds shall
be expended on behalf of the Committee without the authorization of the Committee.
All requests for expenditures shall be submitted for approval by the Finance
Subcommittee in advance of any commitment of expense.

No projects having to do with the museums or museum properties owned
by the Township shall be undertaken without the authorization of the Museum
Committee.
The Museum Committee shall have the authority to establish policies
to support these bylaws.
