The New Jersey Uniform Fire Code shall be locally enforced within Readington Township by adoption of this article, which Uniform Fire Code is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety herein.
The local enforcing agency within the Township of Readington shall be the Bureau of Fire Prevention which is hereby created and established by this article.
The Bureau of Fire Prevention, the local enforcement agency, shall enforce the Uniform Fire Safety Act[1] and the Uniform Fire Code and regulations promulgated thereunder in all buildings, structures and premises within the established boundaries of the Township of Readington, except owner-occupied one- and two-family dwellings and buildings owned or operated by the federal and state governments and interstate agencies, and shall faithfully comply with the requirements of the Uniform Fire Safety Act and the Uniform Fire Code.

The Bureau of Fire Prevention hereby created and established by § 123-2 of this article shall carry out the periodic inspections of life-hazard uses required by the Uniform Fire Code on behalf of the Commissioner of Community Affairs.
The Bureau of Fire Prevention established by § 123-2 of this article shall be under the direct supervision and control of a Fire Official who shall report to the Fire Chief of the Readington Township Chiefs' Association. The Fire Official shall coordinate all daily activities and workload with the Chief Code Enforcement Officer of Readington Township.
A. 
Appointment of Fire Official. The Bureau of Fire Prevention, the local enforcing agency, shall be under the direct supervision of the Fire Official.
B. 
Term of office. The Fire Official shall serve for a term of two years. Any vacancies shall be filled for the unexpired term. Inspectors and other employees as may be necessary for the Bureau of Fire Prevention shall be appointed by the Township Committee upon the recommendation of the Fire Official.
C. 
Removal from office. Inspectors and other employees of the Bureau of Fire Prevention shall be subject to removal by the Township Committee for misfeasance, misconduct and nonfeasance. The Fire Official shall also be subject to removal by the Township Committee for gross negligence, misfeasance, misconduct or malfeasance. Each inspector, employee or Fire Official to be so removed shall be afforded notice and opportunity to be heard by the appointing authority or designated hearing officer.
Pursuant to Sections 15 and 16 of the Uniform Fire Safety Act[1], any person aggrieved by an order of the Bureau of Fire Prevention shall have the right to appeal to the Construction Board of Appeals of Readington Township.

The Bureau of Fire Prevention established by § 123-2 of this article shall carry out the periodic inspections of life-hazard uses required by the Uniform Fire Code on behalf of the Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs. The permit fees, annual registration fees for life-hazard uses and application fees shall be as set forth in N.J.A.C. 5:70-2.9, as amended, from time to time to be established by the State Uniform Fire Code, which shall be incorporated by reference herein.
A. 
The inspection schedule for non-life-hazard uses shall be on an annual basis.
B. 
In addition to the registrations required by the Uniform Fire Code, the following non-life-hazard uses shall register with the Bureau of Fire Prevention. These uses shall be inspected once per year and pay an annual fee. The fee schedule is as follows:

In the discretion of the Fire Official, vacant buildings will be charged and inspected according to the previous use of the building.

All residential uses except R-A uses shall be inspected in the common areas only.
