The State Building Code, including any amendments to said code adopted by the State Building Inspector and State Building Code Standards Committee, in accordance with Connecticut General Statutes Section 29-253, shall be the Building Code of the Town of North Branford.
In addition to the duties outlined in the State Building Code, the Building Official shall maintain and make available for public use a complete and up-to-date State Building Code which shall be located in the Department of Building Inspection during normal business hours.

The Building Official and any assistants thereto shall be appointed by the Chief Executive Officer of the Town in accordance with the provisions of Section 109.1 through 109.7 of the State Building Code.

No permit to begin work for new construction, alteration, removal, demolition or other building operation, including electrical work, interior plumbing work, installation of furnaces or heating systems and air-conditioning systems, shall be issued until the fees prescribed in this section shall have been paid to the Department of Building Inspection of the Town of North Branford, nor shall an amendment to a permit necessitating an additional fee because of an increase in the estimated cost of work involved be approved until the additional fee shall have been paid. Except as otherwise provided herein, all fees shall be based upon the fair market value or cost pursuant to the following schedule:

No fees for permits shall be charged in the construction or alteration of schools or other public buildings, nor shall fees be charged for electrical heating or plumbing permits for work to be performed on such buildings. All other requirements, duties and obligations with respect to the construction of such buildings shall remain in full force and effect.
Any person who violates any provision of the State Building Code or fails to comply with any of the requirements thereof, or who erects, constructs, alters or repairs a building or structure in violation of any approved plan or directive of the Building Official or of a permit or certificate issued under the provisions of the State Building Code, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not more than $500 or by imprisonment not exceeding one year, or by both such fine and imprisonment. Each day that a violation continues shall be deemed a separate offense.

Any person who shall continue any work in or about a structure after having been served with a stop-work order, except such work as that person is directed to perform to remove a violation or unsafe condition, shall be liable to penalties in accordance with § 123-6 of this chapter.
