[HISTORY: Adopted by the Representative Town Meeting of the Town of Branford 7-12-1978. Amendments noted where applicable.]
Pursuant to Section 7-136 of the Connecticut General Statutes (Rev. 1977), as amended, there is hereby established within the Town of Branford an Economic Development Commission.

Said Commission shall consist of nine members, all of whom shall be residents of the Town of Branford and the First Selectman as an ex officio member. One of the members shall be an officer or director of the Branford Chamber of Commerce. All members of said Commission shall be appointed by the Board of Selectmen and shall serve for a term of three years: provided, however, that initially, in July 1978, three members shall be appointed for a term of one year, three members shall be appointed for a term of two years and three members shall be appointed for a term of three years. Thereafter, in the month of July of each succeeding year, three members shall be appointed for a term of three years. In the event of a vacancy in the term of any member, the Board of Selectmen shall appoint a successor to serve for the balance of the term vacated. Any member may be removed for cause by said Board of Selectmen and on request of such member after public hearing. Members shall serve without compensation but shall be compensated for necessary expenses incurred in the performance of their official duties.
The powers and duties of the Economic Development Commission shall be the following:
A. 
To conduct research into the economic conditions in Branford and to make recommendations to appropriate officials and agencies in Branford regarding action to improve its economic condition and development.
B. 
To seek to coordinate the activities of and cooperate with unofficial bodies and agencies organized to promote such economic development.
C. 
To advertise, prepare, print and distribute maps, books, charts and pamphlets which in its judgment will further its official purposes.
D. 
To appoint employees and employ consultants necessary for the implementation of its duties.
Said Commission is hereby designated as the development agency of the Town of Branford and is hereby authorized to exercise the powers granted under Chapter 132 of the Connecticut General Statutes (Rev. 1977), as amended.
Said Commission shall prepare annually and transmit to the Branford Representative Town Meeting and the Board of Selectmen a report of its activities and of its recommendations for improving economic conditions and development in Branford.
