The Police Department of the borough may call on neighboring communities
for police assistance when the need arises and may respond in like manner
when called upon for assistance from other communities. The statutes of New
Jersey authorize such emergency assistance.
The Police Department of the borough is authorized to enter into mutual
reciprocal agreements with neighboring communities for providing police assistance
to such municipalities and receiving similar police assistance from the communities.
All such agreements shall be reported to the Mayor and Council and be
subject to the approval of the Mayor and Council.
The police of the borough shall respond to such calls for assistance
when ordered by a superior officer of the Police Department authorized to
permit such assistance, and while so acting shall be considered as acting
in line of duty as provided by law.
While performing such duties, members of the Police Department shall
be protected in their pension rights, rights to compensation for injuries
and right of dependents in the event of death, and recovery of salary for
work performed while not on duty in the borough, subject to the approval of
the Mayor and Council, as if such duties were performed in the Borough of
Alpine.
