It is the intention of the Mayor and Board of Trustees of the Incorporated Village of Bayville to provide for the representation and indemnification of the public officials and employees of the Village of Bayville for alleged acts or omissions occurring while acting within the scope of their public duties or employment. The Mayor and Board of Trustees of the Incorporated Village of Bayville seek by the adoption of this article to provide any additional protection afforded by Public Officers Law § 18 in addition to the local laws now in effect. It is expressly intended by the Mayor and Board of Trustees of the Incorporated Village of Bayville to provide for the defense and indemnification of members of the public boards and commissions of the Village, the Trustees of the Village, the Mayor of the Village, all Village employees [including but not limited to the Village Clerk, Village Treasurer, Deputy Village Clerk, Deputy Village Treasurer, Superintendent of Public Works, Village Attorney, Water Superintendent and those set forth in Public Officers Law § 18, Subdivision 1(b)], officers and elected or appointed officials.
Pursuant to the provisions of § 18 of the Public Officers Law, the governing body of the Village of Bayville hereby agrees to be held liable for costs incurred under the provisions of such section by conferring upon the officers and employees of the Village of Bayville the benefits of § 18 of the Public Officers Law. Such benefits shall supplement and be available in addition to any defense or indemnification protection heretofore conferred by another enactment.
