The Select Board shall cause the appearance and answer of the Town to be entered and be made in all suits brought against the Town at law or in equity and the interests of the Town to be defended therein. They shall consider all claims for damages or breach of contract made against the Town and may, with the advice of counsel, settle the same, provided that in no case shall settlement be so made by a payment of more than $300 without the authority of the Town.
The Town Clerk shall keep a true copy, in a book to be kept for such purpose alone, of all deeds or conveyances executed in behalf of the Town by any Town officer. It shall be the duty of the Town Clerk to see that every conveyance to the Town of any interest in real estate is properly recorded in the Registry of Deeds.
