§ 74-1 Purpose.

This chapter is adopted in the interest of and is designed to promote the health, safety and welfare of the City of Grand Ledge.

§ 74-2 Permit required.

A fire permit is required for all fires within the limits of the City of Grand Ledge. No person, partnership, association, corporation, or other entity, or employee or agent thereof shall, within the limits of the City of Grand Ledge, start, set or cause to be started or set, a fire without obtaining a permit from the Grand Ledge Area Emergency Services Authority.

§ 74-3 Permitted types of fires.

The only type of fire allowed inside the limits of the City of Grand Ledge is a fire that is being used for food preparation, recreation, and fires used for the keeping of persons and equipment warm during the winter months, as long as the fire is in an approved container, per the Michigan Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act, P.A. 451 of 1994.

§ 74-4 Prohibited acts.

At no time shall any person, partnership, association, corporation, or other entity, or employee or agent thereof burn garbage, animal carcasses, animal waste, grass, leaves, or any other material giving off a foul odor.

§ 74-5 Issuance of permits; validity.

The Grand Ledge Area Emergency Services Authority will issue all fire permits. All permits will be valid for the date of issuance only.

§ 74-6 Requirements; revocation of permit.

Fires shall be attended by a competent person at all times. Unattended fires are prohibited. All fires shall be extinguished before being unattended. Any fire determined by inspection of Grand Ledge Area Emergency Services Authority personnel to be a nuisance shall be extinguished and the fire permit shall be revoked.

§ 74-7 Liability for expenses.

Any expenses incurred by the Grand Ledge Area Emergency Services Authority in responding to a violation of this chapter shall be reimbursed by the individual, partnership, association, corporation, or other entity, or employee or agent thereof responsible for the violation.

§ 74-8 Violations and penalties.

Any violation of this chapter shall be punishable as a misdemeanor as provided in Chapter 1, General Provisions, Article II, Penalties, § 1-17B.
