[HISTORY: Adopted by the Common Council of the City of Burlington 10-5-1943 by Charter Ord. No. 300. Amendments noted where applicable.]
Pursuant to § 40.20, Wis. Stats., the City of Burlington hereby elects to include eligible City personnel under the provisions of the Wisconsin Retirement System in accordance with the terms thereof.

Election is hereby made to provide prior service credits at rates equal to two times the rates of municipality credits for current service, to be applicable to employees as defined by § 40.22, Wis. Stats., who are employed by the City of Burlington on the effective date of this chapter.
Upon the final enactment of this chapter, the City Clerk shall submit a certified notice of the election made hereunder to the Board of Trustees of the Wisconsin Retirement System. Such notice of election shall:
A. 
Be in writing.
B. 
Indicate the date and results of such election.
C. 
Include a certification of the prior service contribution rate selected as being applicable to the employees of the municipality.
D. 
Be officially certified by the Clerk of the municipality.

The effective date of participation shall be January 1, 1944, unless the Board of Trustees of the Wisconsin Retirement System shall defer such effective date pursuant to § 40.20, Wis. Stats.

This is a charter ordinance and shall take effect 60 days after its passage and publication, unless within such 60 days a referendum petition shall be filed as provided by § 66.0101, Wis. Stats., in which event this chapter shall not take effect until submitted to a referendum and approved by a majority of the electors voting thereon.
With respect to earnings paid on and after January 1, 1971, to participating employees of the City, the City shall pay to the Wisconsin Retirement System both the employee's contribution as well as the employer's contribution at rates determined by the Wisconsin Retirement System for all classifications of participating employees.
