There is hereby established in and for the Township of Independence the position of Municipal Public Defender.
The Municipal Public Defender shall undertake representation of those individuals as deemed indigent and qualified for such representation by the sitting Judge of Independence Township Municipal Court.
The term of office of the Municipal Public Defender shall be for a period of one year, to commence on January 1 of the year in which the appointment is made and shall be subject to appoint annually by the Township Committee for each year thereafter.
The Municipal Public Defender shall receive compensation on a per-case basis at a rate set annually by the Township Committee. This fee shall be paid by the defendant.
