There is hereby created the office of Assistant Borough Attorney, which said office shall be filled by the Mayor by and with the consent of the Borough Council.
The Assistant Borough Attorney shall be appointed for a term of one year to begin on the first day of January and end on the 31st day of December, and shall continue in office until his successor is appointed and qualified. Any appointment to fill a vacancy shall be for the unexpired term only.
The duties of the Assistant Borough Attorney shall be as follows:
A. 
He shall try all contested matters and conduct all preliminary hearings in the Municipal Court.
B. 
In the absence, illness or disability of the Borough Attorney, he shall perform the duties of the latter and be vested with his authority.
C. 
He shall perform such other legal services as may be assigned and delegated to him from time to time by the Mayor and Council.
The Assistant Borough Attorney shall receive such compensation as shall be established by resolution or ordinance.
