A. 
Definitions. For the purpose of this chapter and in the interpretation and application of all other ordinances and resolutions heretofore or hereafter adopted by the township, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated, except as the context may otherwise require:
CHARTER or TOWNSHIP CHARTER
Council-Manager Plan E of Chapter 210 of New Jersey Laws of 1950, as amended and supplemented, and any and all general laws (as therein defined) which are or may be applicable to the Township.
CLERK or TOWNSHIP CLERK
The Municipal Clerk duly appointed pursuant to the Charter.
CODE
This chapter, as amended and supplemented.
DEPARTMENT
An organizational unit or group of organizational units of the township government, established or designated as a department by this chapter.
DIRECTOR
The administrative head of a department, regardless of his title.
GENERAL LAW
Any law or provision of law, not inconsistent with the Charter, heretofore or hereafter enacted, which is by its terms applicable or available to all municipalities, and the following additional laws whether or not such additional laws are so applicable or available to all municipalities: legislation relating to taxation, local courts, education, health, public authorities serving more than one municipality and municipalities in unsound financial condition.
GOVERNING BODY
The Council created and constituted pursuant to the Charter.
MANAGER
The Township Manager, Deputy Manager or Acting Manager appointed and serving pursuant to the Charter or this chapter.
MONTH
A calendar month unless otherwise specifically provided.
PERSON
Any corporation, firm, partnership, association, organization or other entity, as well as an individual.
TOWNSHIP or MUNICIPALITY
The Township of Mount Laurel in the County of Burlington, State of New Jersey, as governed by the provisions of the Charter.
YEAR
A calendar year unless otherwise specifically provided.
B. 
Construction. For the purposes of this chapter and any other ordinances heretofore or hereafter adopted, except as the context may otherwise require:

The present tense includes the past and future tenses, and the future, the presen
(2) 
The masculine gender includes the feminine and neuter
(3) 
The singular number includes the plural, and the plural, the singula
(4) 
The time within which an act is to be done shall be computed by excluding the first day and including the last day, and if the last day should be a Sunday or a legal holiday, that day shall be excluded.
(5) 
"Writing" and "written" include printing, typewriting, stencil duplicating and any other visual mode of reproducing words or figures on paper or paper-like material which is in general use.
