The following procedure is established by the Board of Trustees for
the processing of renewals of building permits.
If a building permit has been issued and no construction has been commenced
within the one-year period, the building permit shall be cancelled. Further
construction must be pursuant to a new permit and would require the filing
of the entire inspection fee.
If a building permit has been issued and only limited work has been
completed, the Building Inspector shall make a determination whether a diligent
effort has been made by the contractor to finish the work within the one-year
period of time. If not, then the permit would be deemed cancelled and full
filing fees would be required for its reinstatement. If construction was commenced
and efforts had been made to complete the project, the Building Inspector
should estimate the percentage of work completed and require either the issuance
of a new building permit, or permit an extension of time, requiring only that
portion of the fee covering the incomplete work.
If a building permit has been issued and a contractor has been proceeding
with construction, but due to normal delays in construction (such as inclement
weather, problems with work force, etc.) completion is delayed, the contractor
may be permitted to complete the job with the existing permit, provided that
such extension does not exceed six months or such reasonable time as required
by the Building Inspector.
