This chapter shall be known and may be cited as the "Snowmobile Ordinance
of the Village of Central Square, New York."
The purpose of this chapter is to protect the public health, welfare
and safety by regulating the operation of snowmobiles on public highways and
places in the Village of Central Square in a manner which will be compatible
with the use of such highways and places for vehicular and pedestrian travel
and other uses and which will promote the safe and proper use of snowmobiles
for recreation and commerce and minimize the detrimental effects of such use
on the environment.
The terms, words and phrases used in this chapter shall have the same
meaning as such terms, words and phrases are defined in § 21.05
of the Parks and Recreation Law.[1]

A.
Operation of snowmobiles on highways and public ways
of the Village shall be subject to the applicable provisions of Articles 21
through 27 of the Parks and Recreation Law,[1] the rules and regulations of the Office of Parks and Recreation,[2] Article 47 of the Vehicle and Traffic Law, and the rules, restrictions
and conditions set forth in this chapter.
B.
Only the following streets or highways or portions thereof
of the Village are hereby designated for the purpose of operation of snowmobiles
on the roadways thereof as authorized by § 25.05 of the Parks and
Recreation Law: all Village streets except U.S. Route 11 (Main Street) and
N.Y.S. Route 49 (Fulton Avenue and East Avenue).
No person shall operate a snowmobile on any of the above-designated
Village highways or streets between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.,
except that on Friday and Saturday the prohibited hours shall be between 1:00
a.m. and 7:00 a.m.
A.
Violation. Unless otherwise specifically provided, any
person who violates any provision of this chapter, or of any rule, regulation
or order adopted pursuant thereto, shall be guilty of a:

Penalty. A traffic infraction shall be punishable as
provided in Subdivision (b) of § 1800 of the Vehicle and Traffic
Law in the same manner as if the offense were a violation of the Vehicle and
Traffic Law. A violation shall be punishable as provided in the Penal Law,
except that the maximum fine may not exceed $100.
