[HISTORY: Adopted by the Board of Trustees of the Village of Chittenango 12-18-2001 by L.L. No. 7-2001. (This local law also repealed former Ch. 25, Commissioner of Public Safety, adopted 6-17-1980 by L.L. No. 1-1980.) Amendments noted where applicable.]
In order to attract and retain highly qualified candidates for the responsibilities of enforcement of state and local laws and supervision of police patrol staff of the Village Police Department, the Board has determined that re-establishment of the Office of Chief of Police is in the best interests of the Village. Since the Chief of Police will have direct responsibility for most of the areas and functions formerly assigned to the Commissioner of Public Safety, the position of Commissioner of Public Safety is no longer necessary and would be cost prohibitive, if a Chief of Police was duly in office. Therefore, it is in the best interests of the Village to repeal Chapter 25 of the Village Code.
The office of Chief of Police is hereby re-established.
