This chapter is adopted pursuant to the provisions of the Municipal Home Rule of the State of New York.
The elected positions of Town Clerk and Town Tax Collector for the Town of Copake are hereby consolidated into one elected office to be known as the Town Clerk/Tax Collector of the Town of Copake.
This chapter is adopted subject to a mandatory referendum and shall be submitted for approval of the qualified voters of the Town of Copake at the biennial town election to be held on November 3, 1998. A proposition shall be included on the ballot at such biennial town election, and the consolidation of said elective offices shall not take effect unless such proposition is approved by a majority vote of the qualified voters voting thereon.[1]

This chapter shall supersede § 20, Subdivision 1, Paragraph (b), of the Town Law relating to the elective offices of Town Clerk and Town Tax Collector for the Town of Copake.
