[HISTORY: Adopted by the Board of Trustees of the Village of Dobbs Ferry 2-1-1966 as Art. 7-4 of the 1966 Dobbs Ferry Village Code. Amendments noted where applicable.]
As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
BUILDING
The principal building on each lot, and not any minor or accessory building.
FRONT
As used herein with reference to buildings, that side of the building which faces the street on which the number or numbers of such lot or lots on which the building is situated have been allotted.
STREET
Includes any street, avenue, road, highway or thoroughfare within the Village which the public has the right to use.
A. 
The several lots and buildings in the Village shall be numbered, and such numbering shall be in general accord with the rules therefor as hereinafter set forth.
B. 
One or more whole numbers shall be assigned to each 50 feet of frontage on each side of each street, except that in a business district one or more whole numbers shall be assigned to stores having less than 50 feet of frontage.
C. 
The odd numbers shall be on the left and the even numbers on the right side of each street, counting in the direction in which the numbers progress.
D. 
All streets which terminate at or intersect Broadway shall be numbered east or west from No. 1 at Broadway, and all streets which terminate at or intersect Ashford Avenue shall be numbered north or south from No. 1 at Ashford Avenue.
E. 
All streets which cross or terminate at Flower Avenue or the Dobbs Ferry-Hastings line shall be numbered northward with the exception of Clinton and Judson Avenues, which shall be numbered southward.
F. 
The numbers on Broadway shall begin at the Dobbs Ferry-Hastings line.
G. 
The numbers for all other streets which are continuations of Hastings-on-Hudson streets, regardless of whether or not their names change at the village line, shall begin at said village line with a number which allows two numbers for each 50 feet of frontage on each side of the portions of such streets which are in Hastings-on-Hudson.
H. 
On all interior streets (those not terminating at or intersecting Broadway or Ashford Avenue), No. 1 shall be at the junction with the more important of the streets at which they terminate.
I. 
Interior dead-end streets shall have the highest numbers at their dead ends.
J. 
The map entitled "Home Renumbering Map (Existing Conditions Map), Village of Dobbs Ferry, Town of Greenburgh, Westchester County, N.Y., 1936, made by F. Morton Clark, M.E.E.M. Planning Engineer," now on file with the Village Clerk, made in general accordance with the foregoing rules, is hereby approved, adopted and established as the House and Lot Numbering Map of the Village of Dobbs Ferry; and the numbers of the several lots and buildings in the Village as shown on said map are hereby designated as the numbers of such lots and buildings respectively; and wherever in a given instance the rules for numbering as herein set forth shall conflict with the numbering of any lot or building as shown on said numbering map, the number for any such lot or building as shown on said map shall prevail.
K. 
In case of the erection of a new building, it shall be the duty of the Building Inspector, upon application duly made by the owner, to assign a number thereto, determining such number within the rules herein laid down; the number as assigned to be displayed by the owner in accordance with the provisions of this chapter within 30 days of such assignment. Upon application by the owner, the Board of Trustees may review such numbering and correct or alter same, at its discretion.
It shall be the duty of the owner of each building in the Village, at his own expense, to have the number or numbers assigned such building pursuant to the provisions of this chapter displayed in figures at least three inches in height either on the front of the building or on steps leading upward from the street to the front of the building or upon a gate, gatepost, fence or other object in front of the building so as to be easily seen from the street.
