The Township of Washington, in reliance upon the determination that any volunteer fire company or ambulance squad which receives regular funding contributions from a municipal government is a Municipal Fire Department or an Emergency Squad of said municipality, does hereby designate the Green Bank Volunteer Fire Company, Inc., the Lower Bank Volunteer Fire Company, Inc. and the Green Bank Vol. Ambulance Squad as the official municipal Fire Departments for the Township of Washington subject to the limitations hereafter set forth.

Nothing in this chapter shall be construed as requiring said municipality to make any contributions to purchase any equipment for or assert any control over the Volunteer Fire Departments or Emergency Squads of the Township of Washington other than those annual contributions determined in each municipal budget as the municipality's annual contribution to said fire companies and such controls as are mandated by state law.

It is the purpose of this chapter to establish the Green Bank Volunteer Fire Company, Inc., and the Lower Bank Fire Company, Inc., as the Township's official volunteer fire companies and the Green Bank Vol. Ambulance Squad as the official Ambulance Squad of the Township.
Each person seeking to join the Green Bank Volunteer Fire Company, Inc., or Lower Bank Volunteer Fire Company, Inc., shall make application to the fire company, and upon acceptance by the respective fire company, he or she shall become a member in good standing of the Green Bank Volunteer Fire Company, Inc., or Lower Bank Volunteer Fire Company, Inc., after approval of his or her membership by the fire company. His or her name shall be entered on a role of firemen kept by the Township Clerk.

No person shall hereafter become a member of the Washington Township Relief Association, unless at the time of appointment, such person is above the age of 18 years and not over the age of 45 years, a resident of this Township, and a citizen of the United States of good moral character. He or she shall be physically fit to perform the duties of a fire person as evidenced by a certificate to that effect by a practicing physician of the State of New Jersey. This certificate shall be provided at either the member's own expense or the expense of the Green Bank Volunteer Fire Company, Inc., and/or the Lower Bank Fire Company, Inc.
Upon adoption of this chapter, the Township Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of this chapter to the New Jersey State Firemen's Association.
