[Adopted 9-4-1996 by L.L. No. 1-1996]
The purpose of this article is to extend the term of the City of Geneva Supervisors from two years to four years.
The term of office of each Supervisor hereafter elected in the City of Geneva, notwithstanding the provisions of the City Charter, shall be four years. It is the intent of this section of law, which is subject to mandatory referendum, to extend the term of the City Supervisors elected at the November 1997 general election from two years to four years and that such Supervisors shall only be elected in the City of Geneva each fourth year thereafter, except to fill vacancies.
The City Charter provision in conflict herewith, specifically Article 2, Section 2.1, pertaining to term of office of City Supervisors, is hereby amended.
This article shall become operative only if approved at the November 5, 1996, general election by the affirmative vote of a majority of the qualified electors of the City of Geneva voting upon the proposition in the above matter, and as prescribed by law.[1]
