Every multifamily dwelling building hereafter
constructed which is farther than 25 feet at its nearest point from
a paved public street shall provide and shall thereafter maintain
a paved roadway, access road or driveway which shall be at least 40
feet wide, which shall be no further than 25 feet from such building
at its nearest point and which shall be certified by the Fire Chief
to provide adequate access to said building for the fire protection
equipment of the village.
No certificate of occupancy shall be issued for any multifamily dwelling building hereafter erected or for any building hereafter converted to multifamily use until a certificate of the Fire Chief, as described in §
165-21 hereof, has been filed with the Building Inspector.
Whenever, upon inspecting any multifamily dwelling
building to which this article applies, the Fire Chief shall find
that adequate access to said building has not been provided or maintained
as required by the provisions of this article, he shall report the
same to the Village Clerk, who shall then issue an order directed
to the owner or occupant of said premises to comply with the provisions
of this article within one week thereafter. Upon the failure or refusal
of said owner or occupant to comply, a summons shall be issued for
such violation. After the expiration of said one-week period, each
day during which said violation continues shall be deemed to constitute
a separate violation of this article and shall be separately punishable.
