[HISTORY: Adopted by the Board of Trustees
of the Village of Tarrytown 12-5-1988 by L.L. No. 14-1988 (Ord. 6.4
of the 1959 Unified Code of Ordinances); amended in its entirety 10-19-1992
by L.L. No. 19-1992. Subsequent amendments noted where applicable.]
[Amended 7-18-2011 by L.L. No. 6-2011]
The Board of Trustees of the Village of Tarrytown
believes that the recycling of newspapers, cardboard boxes, glass,
metal containers and plastic containers (PETE and HDPE) will prevent
wasteful incineration, lower the Village's charges for refuse disposal,
provide an additional revenue stream to the Village and will help
to conserve natural resources. Mandatory recycling of newspapers,
cardboard boxes, glass, metal containers and plastic containers (1-PETE;
2-HDPE; 3-V; 4-LDPE; 5-PP; 6-PS; and 7-OTHER) will remove a significant
tonnage of material from the solid waste stream and divert it to a
recyclable use. It is the purpose of this chapter to institute a program
of mandatory recycling for specific recyclable materials in an attempt
to derive maximum environmental and economic benefit with minimum
inconvenience to residents and property owners.

recycling by the Department of Public Works or its duly authorized
