The Town Council is hereby authorized to appoint a Dog Enforcement Agent to assist the police in the seizure, detention and disposition of licensed and unlicensed dogs found running at large within the Borough of Chambersburg.

The Dog Enforcement Agent shall be under the direction and control of the Chief of Police and shall have the authority to seize all dogs found running at large any place within the Borough, either on public streets or highways or on property of other than the owner of such dog, and unaccompanied by the owner or keeper, and to detain, keep, sell or destroy such dog, in accordance with the provisions of the Dog Law of 1965, as amended.[1]

The Dog Enforcement Agent shall receive for his services such compensation as may be determined from time to time by Town Council, as well as all reasonable expenses incurred for the detention of dogs if such agent is the detaining party, as authorized under the Dog Law of 1965, as amended.
Such agent shall not be a member of the police force of the Borough of Chambersburg and shall be subject to removal by the Town Council at any time.
