[HISTORY: Adopted by the Board of Commissioners of the Township of Marple 7-12-1971 as Ch. 11, Art. I, of the 1971 Code. Amendments noted where applicable.]
There is hereby created and established a public library to be maintained in whole or in part by the township for free use by residents of the township.

The Board of Commissioners will appoint seven persons to serve as its representatives on the Board of Directors of the Marple Public Library, each representative to serve three years, said terms expiring in different years, all in accordance with the Library Code, 24 P.S. § 4411.
No member of the Board shall receive any salary for his services as such.

The Board of Library Directors shall organize, as soon as possible after appointment, by the election of a President, Secretary and Treasurer from its membership and of such other officers or changes as the Board may deem necessary. The Treasurer of the Board of Directors of the Library shall give bond to the municipality with satisfactory surety in such amount as the Board of Directors may determine in accordance with the Library Code, 24 P.S. § 4412.
It shall be the duty of the Board of Library Directors to expend, for the establishment and maintenance of such library, such funds only as are appropriated to it by the Board of Township Commissioners, together with such other funds as may be received by the Board from any other person, firm or corporation by deed, gift, testamentary provision or in any other manner whatsoever.
The Board of Library Directors shall annually, promptly after the close of the calendar year, make an annual report of its functions and the financial affairs of the library, and such account shall be subject to audit.
Such Board of Library Directors shall make such rules and regulations as are reasonably necessary to conduct a free public library.

The Board of Directors of the Marple Public Library is hereby designated as the agent of the Township of Marple to provide public library service to its residents and taxpayers.

The Township of Marple will maintain a level of financial support to ensure that the Marple Public Library will have an annual income from state and local sources of not less than $3.75 per capita for the population of the municipality and that it will fully qualify for state aid in accordance with the Library Code, 24 P.S. § 4303.

The Board of Directors shall prepare and present to the Board of Commissioners by November 1 of each year a budget for the following year and such reports as are required by the Library Code, 24 P.S. §§ 4413 and 4414, and shall give free library service to the residents and taxpayers as provided in the Library Code, 24 P.S. § 4415.
