By authority vested in townships by Act 247 of 1968,[1] the Township of Marple establishes a Planning Commission.

It is the intent, purpose and scope of this chapter to protect and promote
the safety, health and welfare of Marple Township by giving to the Planning
Commission the power to review and evaluate all land development and subdivision
of land proposals and other related matters and to make advisory recommendations
to the Board of Commissioners of Marple Township concerning such proposals.
The Planning Commission shall provide for rules and regulations governing
its operation. Such rules and regulations shall provide for the keeping of
records pertaining to its duties and the conduct of meetings and public hearings.
All such rules and regulations shall be approved by the Board of Commissioners.
The Commission shall elect its own Chairman and Vice Chairman and create and
fill such other Commission offices as it may be determined. The Commission
shall annually make a written report by March 1 of each year of its activities
to the Board of Commissioners. Interim reports must be made as often as may
be necessary, or as requested by the Board of Commissioners.
The Planning Commission shall consist of nine members. All of the members
shall be residents of the Township of Marple. All members shall serve without
compensation but may be reimbursed for necessary and reasonable expenses.
All members of the Planning Commission shall be appointed by the Board
of Commissioners for a four-year overlapping term, coinciding with the calendar
year, provided that in the case of the nine individuals appointed at the time
of establishment of the Planning Commission, the terms of two shall expire
on the first day of January of the first year after the establishment; the
terms of two shall expire on the first day of January of the second year after
the establishment; the terms of two shall expire on the first day of January
of the third year after the establishment; and the terms of three shall expire
on the first day of January of the fourth year after the establishment.
Any member of the Planning Commission once qualified and appointed may
be removed from office for malfeasance, misfeasance or nonfeasance in office
by a majority vote of the Board of Commissioners which appointed the member,
taken after the member has received 15 days' advance notice of the intent
to take such vote. A hearing shall be held in connection with the vote if
the member shall request it in writing. Any appointment to fill a vacancy
created by removal shall be only for the unexpired term.
