GENERAL REFERENCES

In accordance with Section 3020 et seq. of the
Pennsylvania First Class Township Code (53 P.S. § 58020
et seq.), the Marple Tree Commission (the “Commission”)
is hereby established.
A.
The Marple
Township Tree Commission shall be composed of five residents appointed
by the Board of Commissioners of the Township of Marple who shall
serve without compensation. The Members of the Commission shall serve
at the will of the Board of Commissioners.
B.
Initially,
one member shall be appointed for a term of five years, one member
shall be appointed for a term of four years, one member shall be appointed
for a term of three years, one for a term of two years, and one for
a term of one year. Upon expiration of the first terms of the first
appointed members, all subsequent appointments shall be for terms
of five years each. Any vacancy in the office of a member shall be
filled by the Board of Commissioners for the unexpired term.
C.
Appointed
members may invite associate members to serve on the Marple Tree Commission,
as well as other volunteers to assist with specific projects. Associate
members shall have no voting rights or powers and shall serve in an
advisory/volunteer capacity only.
The appointed members of the Commission shall
have oversight of all of the trees in the Township rights-of-way and
on other public property such as municipal parks and facilities in
the Township. The Commission shall have all of the powers vested in
such Commissions by the First Class Township Code of the Commonwealth
of Pennsylvania and all amendments, changes or additions thereto.
The Commission may, with the approval of the
Township Board of Commissioners, employ and pay such superintendents,
engineers, foresters, tree wardens or other assistants as the proper
performance of the duties devolving upon it shall require.
The Commission may recommend publication of
regulations for the care and protection of the trees of the Township,
provided that no such regulation shall be in force until it has been
approved by the Township Commissioners and until it has been advertised
according to law at least twice in not more than two newspapers of
general circulation in the Township. The Commission shall recommend
enforcement of such regulations to the Director of Code Enforcement.
The Commission shall annually report in full
to the Township Commissioners its transactions and expenses for the
last fiscal year of the Township.
