A. 
There is hereby designated the North Greenbush Building Department to administer and enforce the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code, henceforth referred to as the "Uniform Code," within the Town of North Greenbush.
B. 
The North Greenbush Building Department shall also be designated to administer and enforce specific local laws of the Code of the Town of North Greenbush. The Building Department shall be designated to administer and enforce these local laws either within the text of the law or by resolution of the Town Board.
Any employee of the North Greenbush Building Department directly involved in code enforcement shall not engage in any activity inconsistent with his duties or with the interests of the Building Department. Building officials employed as per §§ 73-1, 73-2, 73-3 and 73-4 of the Code of the Town of North Greenbush shall not perform code enforcement activities with regard to any project, building, business, furnishing of labor, materials, supplies or appliances for, or the supervision of, the construction, alteration, demolition or maintenance of a building or the preparation of plans or specifications thereof that they have separately undertaken, enjoined or participated in, either indirectly or directly, within the Town of North Greenbush.

A. 
Administration. The North Greenbush key box system will be administered by the North Greenbush Building Department designee. All Knox-Boxes® previously installed and maintained by the fire district would now be maintained by the North Greenbush Building Departments designee.
B. 
Where required. Where access to or within a structure or area is restricted because of secured openings or where immediate access is necessary for life-saving or firefighting purposes, the Code Enforcement Official is authorized to require a key box to be installed in an approved location. The key box shall be an approved type and shall contain all keys and necessary key pad codes to gain access throughout the building as required by the Code Enforcement Official.
C. 
Locks. An approved lock shall be installed on gates or similar barrier when required by the Code Enforcement Official.
D. 
Key box maintenance. The operator of the building shall immediately notify the Code Enforcement Official and provide the new key when a lock is changed or re-keyed. The key to such lock shall be secured in the key box.
This chapter repeals and replaces Chapter 51 of the Code of the Town of North Greenbush[1] adopted by the Town Board of the Town of North Greenbush on August 17, 1965, and as said law was from time to time amended. This chapter shall also supersede a resolution of the Town Board of the Town of North Greenbush adopted on May 10, 1965, which established the office of Building Inspector and set forth the duties of the Building Inspector, and is also adopted in lieu of § 138 of the New York State Town Law and shall supersede such section to the extent that this chapter is inconsistent therewith.
