To provide constancy and greater experience in Village government, the Board of Trustees of the Incorporated Village of Islandia provides that the terms of office of the Mayor and the Village Trustees be increased from two-year terms to four-year terms pursuant to provisions of § 3-302 of the New York State Village Law.
The terms of office of the Mayor and all Trustees of the Village Board shall be four years. General Village elections shall be held biennially in the odd-numbered years.[1]

Editor's Note: The local law establishing this article provided that, since it shall become effective between a general Village election in an odd-numbered year (1999) and 30 days prior to a general Village election in the next even-numbered year (2000), and provided that general Village elections shall be held in the odd-numbered year, the successor to those offices whose term of office expires in an even-numbered year (2000) shall, at the general Village election preceding the expiration of such term of office, be elected for a single three-year term and their successors shall thereafter be elected for terms of four years.

The position of employee of the Village of Islandia and Village Trustee of the Village of Islandia are compatible in that the position as an employee of the Village of Islandia is not an appointed official as defined in § 3-300 of the Village Law and because the position of Trustee does not have a supervisory capacity of employee positions in the Village of Islandia, and there shall be no requirement that a Village of Islandia employee resign upon election as or upon serving as a Trustee of the Village, and no Village Trustee that is employed by the Village of Islandia shall be required to resign or terminate that employment in order to serve or continue to serve as a Trustee of the Village of Islandia.
