The following is the policy concerning the requests
to remove trees on Village rights-of-way:
A. All such requests, regardless of how they come to
the Village government, should be referred to the Village Tree Commission
for advisory consideration.
B. Usually, the Village Tree Commission will concur with
such requests, provided that steps are taken to replace the tree to
be removed, except when the tree is of particular significance to
the Village Street Tree Arboretum.
C. Replacement mechanisms. The Village Tree Commission
will recommend one of the following replacement mechanisms as appropriate:
(1) The property owner can elect to have the tree professionally
moved to another location on a Village right-of-way adjacent to the
same property.
(2) The Village Tree Commission may elect to have the
tree moved, by the Village, to another site if the tree is small and
important to the Village Street Tree Arboretum.
(3) The property owner wishing to remove the tree can
reimburse the Village Planting Fund for the replacement cost of the
tree.
(4) If the tree is not viable from age or damage and should
be removed by the Village at no cost to the property owner, it will
be replaced as appropriate as part of the ongoing Street Tree Arboretum
Master Plan.
D. In the event that the Village Tree Commission believes
that the tree is so valuable to the Village Street Tree Arboretum
that it should not be removed, and it is too large to be relocated,
the Village Tree Commission will provide the appropriate branch of
Village government with a detailed written advisory concerning the
reasons why it should not be removed.
