As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
VEHICLE
A motor vehicle that is unregistered according to the records of the Department of Motor Vehicles or lacks a registration sticker as prescribed by the regulations of the Department of Motor Vehicles of New York State.
No person may place a vehicle in the front or side yard of any lot in the Village of Maybrook with a "For Sale" sign or equivalent evidence that the vehicle is for sale, unless first a permit shall have been obtained from the Village Clerk.
The permit shall be issued by the Village Clerk upon the payment of the fee of $15 for a thirty-day permit. The permit shall show the date of issuance and the expiration date, and such permit shall expire at midnight on that date.
A second and subsequent permits maybe issued for additional terms not exceeding 30 days each, upon the expiration of the initial thirty-day term of the permit, such fee to be $150 for each thirty-day extension. Extended permits shall show the expiration date, and shall expire at midnight on that date.
The Village Clerk shall adopt a form for the permits provided for by this chapter. Such permits shall specify the date of issuance, make, model, vehicle identification number, color and owner of the vehicle, and shall state that the permit expires 30 days after issuance, unless extended, and upon expiration of the term, the vehicle may not be offered for sale in the front yard or side yard of any premises in the Village of Maybrook, and that a violation of this permit condition is an offense punishable by a fine not exceeding $500 per offense.
A separate permit is required for each vehicle offered for sale or exhibiting a “For Sale“sign or the equivalent and that is located in a front yard or side yard of any lot.
A. 
A permit shall not be required for vehicles on premises that are licensed by the Department of Motor Vehicles as a dealership in used automobiles, and such sales are permitted by applicable local zoning laws.
B. 
This chapter shall not apply to a vehicle for sale if such vehicle is located in an approved parking area of a commercial or other nonresidential use.
In addition to the owner of the vehicle being subject to this chapter, the owner or occupant of a premises where a vehicle is offered for sale in violation of this chapter shall be subject to a fine for permitting a vehicle to be offered for sale on his or her premises without the required permit, after having been notified by the Building Inspector in writing of the violation and having failed to remove the violation from the premises.
Failure to obtain the necessary permit and to obtain extensions for each vehicle that is subject to this chapter shall be an offense, and the maximum fine for such offense shall be $500 per violation. Each vehicle offered for sale without a permit shall be a separate violation.
