It shall be unlawful for any person intentionally to give, assist in giving, or cause to be given or importune any false alarm of fire in any manner; provided, however, that this section shall not apply to members of the Fire Department or its agents or contractors in the maintenance or repair of the City's signal and alarm system.
It shall be unlawful for any person to tamper, meddle or in any way interfere with any station or signal box of any fire alarm system or any auxiliary appliance thereof, or intentionally to break, injure, deface or remove, or to make any connection or communication with, the poles, wires, boxes or other parts or fixtures of the fire alarm system, so as to interrupt or interfere with the proper working of the same, or to mutilate or destroy any notices that may be legally posted relating to the same.
It shall be unlawful for any person to make or cause to be made, or to use or have in his or her possession, any key, impression or duplicate of any signal box of the fire alarm system without the written permission of the Chief of the Fire Department.
A violation of any of the provisions of this article shall constitute an offense within the meaning of the Penal Law of the State of New York, punishable, upon conviction thereof, by a fine of not less than $100 nor more than $500 or by a term of incarceration not to exceed 15 days in jail, or by both such fine and incarceration.
