ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS
As used in this Code, the following terms shall have
the meanings indicated:
The Clerk of the Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals
and of any agency or board of the Town, but not the Town Clerk.
Any attorneys retained or appointed by the Town Board to
provide legal representation to the Town, unless such provision shall
specifically refer to a public official known as the "Town Attorney,"
and in such case such reference shall mean only the Town Attorney.
The legislative body of the Town.
The Code of the Town of Thompson.
The Building Inspector or Deputy Building Inspector or other
Town official having the authority under the Town law to enforce the
land use and other regulations of the Town together with such other
authority as the Town Board may assign.
A member of the Town Board.
The Highway Superintendent of the Town.
The Town.
Any area located within the Town which is designated as a
park, whether or not such lands are funded with park and recreation
funds.
The public official of the Town in charge of operating Town
parks.
A natural person and any corporation, partnership, association,
limited liability company or limited liability partnership or any
other entity and, where applicable, any principal or agent of the
same and any governmental entity other than the Town.
The Planning Board of the Town established pursuant to Town
Law § 271.
The public official of the Town who is duly designated by
the Town Board to administer the Sewer and Water Departments of the
Town.
Dillon Farms Sewer District, Harris Sewer District, Kiamesha
Lake Sewer District, Melody Lake Sewer District and Sackett Lake Sewer
District, of the Town of Thompson, as heretofore established by the
Town Board of the Town of Thompson, or any sewer district created
hereafter by said Town Board of the Town of Thompson in accordance
with the statutes applicable thereto. If any provision of the Code
shall refer to one district, then "sewer district" shall mean only
the sewer district referred to in such section or sections.
The Supervisor of the Town and chief elected officer.
The Town of Thompson, a political subdivision of the State
of New York and County of Sullivan.
The Town Clerk of the Town.
Any water district of the Town heretofore or hereafter created,
modified or extended. If any provision of the Code shall refer to
one district, then "water district" shall mean only the water district
referred to in such section or sections.
The Zoning Board of Appeals of the Town established pursuant
to Town Law § 267.

Word usage. The words of the masculine gender include
the feminine and the neuter gender and may refer to a corporation
or to a board or other body or assembly of persons, and when the sense
so indicates, the words of the neuter gender may refer to any gender.
Each of the terms "heretofore" and "hereafter" in any provision of
an ordinance or local law relates to the time such provision takes
effect. Words in the singular number include the plural, and the plural
number includes the singular. Words used in the present tense include
the future.

The word "shall" shall be mandatory, and the word
"may" shall be permissive.
