A. 
The purpose of the West Carthage Zoning Law is to promote and guide development in an orderly and efficient manner. This will reduce land use conflicts, promote traffic safety, enhance and protect the historical and recreational attributes of the Village, retain and improve land values, encourage quality development, ensure wise use of utilities and promote the general health and welfare of Village residents. This chapter is designed to protect existing development while providing some control of growth so that future development will not be a detriment to the Village and its residents.
B. 
This chapter shall be known as the "Village of West Carthage Zoning Law."
C. 
This chapter is adopted pursuant to Article 7 of Village Law and Articles 2 and 3 of Municipal Home Rule Law.
A. 
No building, structure or land shall hereafter be used or occupied and no building, structure or part thereof shall be erected, moved or altered (to expand the exterior physical dimensions) unless in conformity with the regulations herein specified for the district in which it is located.
B. 
No building shall hereafter be erected or altered to:
(1) 
Exceed the maximum height requirements of the district in which it is located.
(2) 
Have a narrower or smaller rear yard, front yard or side yards than is specified in this chapter for the district in which such building is located.
C. 
No part of a yard or other open space about any building required for the purpose of complying with the provisions of this chapter shall be included as a part of a yard or other open space similarly required for another building.
D. 
The regulations of this chapter shall not apply to buildings, structures, land or use thereof existing at the time of enactment of this chapter. Any physical alteration of existing buildings or structures or any change in use of any buildings, structures or land happening after adoption of this chapter shall be regulated to the extent provided under this chapter.
