There is hereby created the position of sole Assessor within the Town of Wheatfield, New York, to be appointed by the Town Board of said Town. Any resident of the Town of Wheatfield otherwise eligible for appointment as Assessor may be appointed.
The term of office of Assessor shall be six years, commencing on the first day of October 1977 and each sixth year thereafter.
The position of Assessor shall be in the classified service notwithstanding the provisions of Subdivision (e) of § 35 of the Civil Service Law.
No person shall be eligible for appointment as Assessor unless he or she meets the minimum qualification standards set forth in § 310 of the Real Property Tax Law of the State of New York and such standards established for such office by the State Board.
This chapter shall be subject to a permissive referendum and shall take effect 45 days after passage by the Town Board of the Town of Wheatfield, New York.
