There is hereby created the Jenkintown Borough Fire Commission.

The Fire Commission shall consist of the members of the Borough Council Public Safety Committee, four members of the Pioneer Fire Company and four members of the Independent Fire Company.
The Borough Council shall initially appoint two members of each of the fire companies to one-year terms and two members of each of the fire companies to two-year terms. Upon the expiration of the initial terms, all appointments shall be for two-year terms. Vacancies shall be filled by Borough Council from a list of nominees submitted by the fire company of which the outgoing Commission member was a member.
The functions and duties of the Fire Commission shall be to:
A. 
Act as liaison between the Borough fire companies and the Borough Council.
B. 
Promote efficiency and avoid duplication in the selection and purchase of fire-fighting equipment.
C. 
Make financial recommendations to the fire companies and the Borough Council.
D. 
Review and suggest policy changes to Borough Council.
E. 
Coordinate the activities of the fire companies.
F. 
Promote better fire prevention, firesafety and firefighting within the Borough of Jenkintown.
Nothing herein contained shall be construed as lessening or eliminating any of the duties of the fire companies as they are established by Act of Assembly nor as a delegation of any right, privilege, duty or power of Borough Council.
The Fire Commission shall organize itself, elect officers, keep minutes and report its findings and recommendations at least quarterly to Borough Council.
