There is hereby created, in accordance with N.J.S.A. 40A:9-146, the position of Tax Assessor in the Township of Cranford.

A. 
The Tax Assessor shall have the following duties:
(1) 
To assess property for the purpose of general taxation.
(2) 
To make all assessments for benefits for local improvements pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:56-1 et seq.
B. 
Except as otherwise provided by statute, the Tax Assessor shall be responsible to the Township Administrator.

The Tax Assessor shall be appointed by a majority vote of the Township Committee and shall hold office for a term of four years from the first day of July next following said appointment. Vacancies other than due to expiration of term shall be filled by appointment for the unexpired term.
The Tax Assessor shall receive such compensation as the Township Committee may fix from time to time by ordinance.
There is hereby created in accordance with N.J.S.A. 40A:9-146 the position of Deputy Tax Assessor in the Township of Cranford.
The Deputy Tax Assessor shall act under the direct supervision of and assist the Tax Assessor.
The Deputy Tax Assessor shall be appointed by a majority vote of the Township Committee and shall hold office for a term of four years from the first day of July next following said appointment. Vacancies other than due to expiration of term shall be filled by appointment for the unexpired term.
The Deputy Tax Assessor shall receive such compensation as the Township Committee may fix from time to time by ordinance.
