Borough of Palmyra, NJ Article V Code Enforcement Officer

[Adopted 12-14-1992 by Ord. No. 1992-17 (Ch. 20A of the 1971 Code)]

§ 35-19 Position created.

There shall be created the position of Borough Code Enforcement Officer with the Borough of Palmyra.

§ 35-20 Appointment.

The Code Enforcement Officer shall be appointed by the governing body.

§ 35-21 Duties and responsibilities.

A. It shall be the responsibility of the Code Enforcement Officer to enforce the following enumerated ordinances as set forth in the Code of Palmyra:[1]

(1) Chapter 72, Amusements and Amusement Devices, Article III, Amusement and Music Machines.

(2) Chapter 74, Animals, Article II, Dog Licensing and Regulations, Article V, Cats, and Article VI, Vicious Dogs; Number of Dogs; Nuisances.

(3) Chapter 153, Junkyards.

(4) Chapter 181, Numbering of Buildings.

(5) Chapter 203, Property Maintenance.

(6) Chapter 230, Solid Waste, Article III, Collection.

(7) Chapter 237, Streets and Sidewalks, Article II, Sidewalk Area Maintenance, Article III, Snow and Ice Removal, and Article V, Street Excavations.

(8) Chapter 240, Swimming Pools.

(9) Chapter 300, Weed Control (Board of Health).

[1] Editor's Note: The references which appeared in this subsection to Ch. 6, Amusements and Exhibitions on Sundays, and Ch. 30, Food and Drink Establishments, of the 1971 Code have been removed in light of the repeal of those chapters by Ord. No. 2003-19. The reference to Ch. 94, Zoning, of the 1971 Code has also been removed in light of the repeal of that chapter by Ord. No. 1994-22.

B. Although the Code Enforcement Officer's primary responsibility shall be enforcing the above-enumerated ordinances, other municipal employees and officials may also enforce said ordinances, and the delegation of this enforcement duty to the Code Enforcement Officer shall not preclude others from enforcing said ordinances.

§ 35-22 Salary and work schedule.

The salary, working hours and schedule of the Code Enforcement Officer shall be fixed by the Mayor and Council.
