No person shall be elected or appointed as Fire Chief unless he/she has been an active fire fighter in the Paulsboro Fire Department for a period of three years, a fire fighter for seven years, has served at least three years in the capacity of either a Deputy or Assistant Chief within the Borough of Paulsboro, has met all the Paulsboro Fire Department course requirements, and also has met all requirements required by the State of New Jersey. He/she shall be a resident of Paulsboro and have made 50% of fires, 50% of state-required drills, and 50% of Fire Department meetings during the current calendar year. He/she must be a member in good standing with his/her respective fire association and within the Paulsboro Fire Department.

No person shall be elected or appointed as Assistant Fire Chief unless he/she has been an active fire fighter in the Paulsboro Fire Department for a period of three years, a fire fighter for six years, has served at least one year in the capacity of Captain within the Borough of Paulsboro, and two years of fire officer experience; he/she has met all the Paulsboro Fire Department course requirements and also has met all requirements required by the State of New Jersey. He/she shall be a resident of Paulsboro and have made 50% of fires, 50% of state-required drills, and 50% of Fire Department meetings during the current calendar year. He/she must be a member in good standing with his/her respective fire association and within the Paulsboro Fire Department.
No person shall be elected or appointed as Captain unless he/she has been an active fire fighter in the Paulsboro Fire Department for a period of two years, a fire fighter for five years, has served at least one year in the capacity of Lieutenant within the Borough of Paulsboro; he/she has met all the Paulsboro Fire Department course requirements and also has met all requirements required by the State of New Jersey. He/she shall have made 50% of fires, 50% of state-required drills, and 50% of Fire Department meetings during the current calendar year. He/she must be a member in good standing with his/her respective fire association and within the Paulsboro Fire Department. This position(s) will be limited to a Borough resident unless there is no Paulsboro Fire Department resident(s) interested; then any member of the Paulsboro Fire Department may run for the position as long as he/she meets the other qualifications.
No person shall be elected or appointed as Lieutenant unless he/she has been an active fire fighter in the Paulsboro Fire Department for a period of two years, a fire fighter for four years, and has served at least one year of active involvement in the inspection and maintenance of the Paulsboro Fire Department's equipment and trucks; he/she has met all the Paulsboro Fire Department course requirements and also has met all requirements required by the State of New Jersey. He/she shall have made 50% of fires, 50% of state-required drills, and 50% of Fire Department meetings during the current calendar year. He/she must be a member in good standing with his/her respective fire association and within the Paulsboro Fire Department. This position(s) will he limited to a Borough resident unless there is no Paulsboro Fire Department resident(s) interested; then any member of the Paulsboro Fire Department may run for the position as long as he/she meets the other qualifications.
No person shall be elected or appointed as Chief Fire Marshal unless he/she has been an active fire fighter in the Paulsboro Fire Department for a period of one year, a fire fighter for five years, and holds a valid New Jersey Fire Officials License. He/she shall meet all course requirements of the Paulsboro Fire Department and the State of New Jersey, pursuant to N.J.A.C. 5:71-3.2. He/she shall be a resident of Paulsboro and have made 50% of fires, 50% of state-required drills and 50% of Fire Department meetings during the current calendar year. He/she must be a member in good standing with his/her respective fire association and within the Paulsboro Fire Department.
No person shall be elected or appointed as Assistant Fire Marshal unless he/she has been an active fire fighter in the Paulsboro Fire Department for a period of one year, a fire fighter for three years, and holds a valid New Jersey Fire Inspectors License. He/she shall meet all course requirements of the Paulsboro Fire Department and the State of New Jersey, pursuant to N.J.A.C. 5:71-3.2. He/she shall be a resident of Paulsboro and have made 50% of fires, 50% of state-required drills and 50% of Fire Department meetings during the current calendar year. He/she must be a member in good standing with his/her respective fire association and within the Paulsboro Fire Department.
Nonresidents may join the Paulsboro Fire Department. The Fire Chief, with the Public Safety Committee, shall set a safe mileage response area of five miles from the Borough's boundaries. Any change of response area shall be communicated to the Borough Administrator and Council.
Members of the Paulsboro Fire Department shall be not less than 18 years of age. Junior members shall be at least 16 years of age, but shall not be 18.
All members of the Fire Department shall be of good moral character, citizens of the United States, and not have been convicted of any crime which is a common-law felony. They shall be physically fit for the duties of an active fire fighter and, before being appointed to the Paulsboro Fire Department, shall have had heretofore presented a certificate from a doctor certifying such physical fitness.
