For purposes of this article of the Code of
the Township of Pennsauken, the following words and phrases shall
have the meanings hereinafter set forth:
Food or beverage containers made of glass or any type metal.
All uncontaminated used newspaper.
All household items which are manufactured plastic in nature,
specifically including but not limited to garbage bags, plastic cans,
cups and kitchen utensils.
Newspaper and newspaper materials, glass and cans and plastics
as defined herein.
There is hereby established a program for the
mandatory separation of newspaper and newspaper materials, glass and
cans and plastic materials from household trash within the Township
of Pennsauken.
The occupant or owner of any building within
the Township of Pennsauken, who shall place for disposal, removal
or collection the following named items, shall do so in strict conformity
with the following regulation:
A.Â
Newspaper and newspaper materials shall be bundled
separately from the rest of household trash and bundled separately
and properly secured and bound by either rope, wire and/or twine and
properly secured in bundles not to exceed 50 pounds and shall be placed
at the curb where the separated household trash is normally picked
up for collection.
B.Â
Glass and cans shall be separated from the rest of
household trash and placed in a container supplied to each occupant
and/or homeowner by the Township of Pennsauken, and this container
shall be placed at the curb where separated household trash is normally
picked up for collection on the day designated for collection of recyclables.
C.Â
All plastic materials commonly used in the household
as indicated hereinabove shall be separated from the rest of household
trash in recycling buckets or other receptacles supplied by the Township
of Pennsauken and shall be placed at the curb where the separated
household trash is normally picked up for collection.
The collection, removal and disposal of newspaper
and newspaper materials shall be supervised by the Recycling Coordinator
of the Township of Pennsauken.
From the time of placement at the curb, by an
owner, resident or occupant, of the recyclables hereinabove described,
for collection by the agent of the Township of Pennsauken in accordance
with the terms hereof, the items shall be and become the property
of the Township of Pennsauken. It shall be a violation of this article
for any person unauthorized by the Township of Pennsauken to collect,
obtain, pick up or cause to be collected, obtained or picked up any
such item during the twenty-six-hour period commencing at 6:00 p.m.
on any day preceding a day designated for collection. Any and all
such collection in violation hereof from one or more households or
residences during said twenty-six-hour period shall constitute a separate
and distinct offense punishable as hereinafter provided.
Any person, firm or corporation that violates
or neglects to comply with any provision of this article or any regulation
promulgated pursuant thereto shall, upon conviction thereof, be subject
to one or more of the following: a fine not exceeding $1,250 or imprisonment
in the county jail for a term not exceeding 90 days, or a period of
community service not exceeding 90 days, in the discretion of the
Municipal Court Judge.
