A. 
Employees in this category shall be compensated for overtime work by allowing time off equal in amount to the overtime worked. Such time off shall be granted within 12 months of the time in which the overtime was incurred at such particular time as the department head may determine.
B. 
In the event that the work of the Department will not permit the allowance of compensating time off, payment for such overwork may be authorized by the appointing authority upon recommendation of the department head. Payment for overtime work shall not be made in any year for such work performed in a previous year.
C. 
Payment for overtime work, when authorized as herein provided, shall be made at the following rates: straight time for the first 2 1/2 hours, and time and one-half for all such work performed over 40 hours per week.

In the event that the work of the Department will not permit the allowance of compensating time off, payment for such overtime work, to the extent of eight hours over 40 hours per week, shall be made upon the written order of the department head and any such overtime work which exceeds 48 hours per week shall be authorized by the Chairman of the Public Works Committee upon the written recommendation of the department head. Payment for overtime work shall not be made in any year for such work performed in a previous year.
C. 
Payment for overtime work shall not be made to the Superintendent of Public Works.

Payment for overtime work, when authorized as herein provided, shall be made at the following rates:
A. 
Straight time for such overtime work to Street Foreman, Sanitation Foreman, Sewer Foreman, Mechanical Repairman and Fire Signal System Repairman.
B. 
Time and one-half for all such overtime work performed over 40 hours per week on weekdays, except holidays, and double time for all such overtime work performed on Sundays and holidays to all other employees.

Payment for overtime work shall not be made in any year for such work performed in a previous year.
C. 
Payment for overtime work, when authorized as herein provided, shall be made at the rate of straight time.

Extra time spent by an employee in the discharge of duties which are a regular function of the employee's position, such as time spent at Council meetings, meetings of official boards and bodies or attendance before any court, shall not be considered overtime.
