A. 
The Borough of Rutherford shall pay an annual allowance toward the purchase of uniforms as hereinafter itemized to all uniformed members of the Police Department in the amount of 3/4 of 1% of the top paid patrolman’s base salary, payable on the first day of May of each year; provided, however, that a newly appointed patrolman shall receive a full uniform at the time of his appointment and he shall not be entitled to any further allowance for the calendar year of his appointment.
B. 
The Borough of Rutherford shall pay an annual allowance toward the purchase of uniforms as hereinafter itemized to the Chief of Police and Captain of the Police Department in the amount of ¾ of 1% of the top paid patrolman’s base salary, payable on the first day of May of each year.
The items of uniform for which such allowance is made are as follows:
A. 
Winter: overcoat, trousers, cap, shirt and tie.
B. 
Other seasons: blouse, trousers, cap, shirt and tie.
C. 
Rain clothing, boots and shoes.
D. 
Insignia.

The Chief of Police shall certify to the Mayor and Council not later than the first day of April of each year the names of the members of the Police Department who are entitled to receive payment of such uniform allowance.
All payments of the uniform allowance as herein set forth shall be authorized by resolution of the Mayor and Council.

Upon the written authorization of the Chief of Police and with the approval of the Mayor and Council, the Purchasing Agent of the Borough of Rutherford is hereby authorized to purchase for a uniformed member of the Police Department those items of uniform above set forth in the following manner:
A. 
All patrolmen who have not attained the maximum upper pay range may purchase those items of uniform above set forth and to arrange with that member of the Police Department for whom they were purchased a method of payment of the cost of such uniform, which shall be not less than $10 per month.
B. 
Any other member of the Police Department may make a single purchase of those items of uniform above set forth during the period commencing January 1 of each year to the first day of May each year, to be paid for by the Borough of Rutherford and to be deducted from the amount of clothing allowance which is payable on the first day of May of each year.
C. 
The Collector-Treasurer of the Borough of Rutherford shall maintain proper bookkeeping records of such transactions.

Any member of the Police Department whose clothing shall be damaged in the performance of duty to the extent that it will require cleaning, repairing or replacing may be entitled to have such clothing cleaned, repaired or replaced at the cost of the Borough of Rutherford upon the written certification of the same by the Chief of Police and with approval of the Mayor and Council.
The payment of the uniform allowance for the year of 1959 shall be made upon the adoption of this chapter.
This chapter shall take effect upon publication according to law.

The Borough of Rutherford shall pay an annual uniform and clothing allowance in the amount of ¾ of 1% of the top paid patrolman’s base salary to each of the superior officers and patrolman assigned to the Detective Bureau, payable on the first day of May of each year.

The Borough of Rutherford shall pay an annual clothing allowance of $150 to the Animal Warden, payable on the first day of May of each year.[1]
