A.
Pursuant to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 40A:9-141,
there is hereby created the office of Township Tax Collector.
B.
The Township Tax Collector shall be appointed by the
Township Committee and shall serve for a term of four years from the
first day of January next following his appointment. In the discretion
of the Township Committee, the office of Township Tax Collector and
Township Treasurer or Township Clerk may be held by the same person.
C.
The salary of the Township Tax Collector shall be
as fixed by the Salary Ordinance of the Township of Washington. Additional
fees may be approved by the Township Committee.
The Tax Collector shall do, but not be limited
to, the following:
A.
Perform the functions of a collector of taxes, including,
without limitation thereto, the rendering of bills of property taxes
and the conducting of tax sales.
B.
Receive and collect all current and delinquent real
property taxes, tax sale fees and charges and receive penalties and
interest thereon.
C.
Deposit to the credit of the Township all moneys received,
in the depositories selected by the Township Committee, within the
time prescribed by law.
D.
Maintain full and complete records and accounts of
sums collected and received under the supervision of the Township
Auditor and in accordance with the standards and requirements of the
Division of Local Finance in the Department of Community Affairs of
the State of New Jersey.
E.
Submit a report to the Township Committee at least
once a month of all receipts and deposits by and, in such report,
account for all moneys for which he is responsible.
F.
Have such other different and additional functions,
powers and duties as may be prescribed by law or ordinance or delegated
to the Tax Collector by the Township Committee. Shall also work all
hours and days as assigned by the Township Committee, by resolution,
in the municipal building and/or other work place so designated by
the Township Committee.
