Each Supervisor of Mount Joy Township elected or appointed to office on or after November 5, 1985, shall receive compensation for attending duly advertised general or special public meetings of the Board of Supervisors at the rate of fifty dollars ($50.) for each meeting attended by the Supervisor.
No Supervisor shall receive annual compensation under this Article in excess of the annual statutory limit set by the General Assembly in Act 68[1] for supervisors of second class townships within the appropriate population category.

No Supervisor shall be compensated for attending any meetings of the Board of Supervisors in excess of forty (40) meetings per year. However, the absence of compensation shall not negate or in any way affect the Supervisor's duty or obligation to attend such uncompensated meetings.
Such compensation shall be paid in quarterly installments.
The salary to be paid each Supervisor pursuant to this Article is considered compensation for services rendered by the Supervisor for the duties imposed by law on Supervisors of second class townships. Should a Supervisor perform services for the township while acting as a superintendent, roadmaster or laborer, the Supervisor shall be entitled to such additional compensation as is determined by the Township Auditors. However, no Supervisor shall receive compensation as a superintendent or roadmaster for time he or she spends attending a meeting of the Board of Supervisors.

Section 515 of the Second Class Township Code has established the maximum compensation for members of boards of supervisors of second class townships based upon the population of such townships. Section 515 of the Second Class Township Code was amended to require that the compensation be paid in monthly or quarterly payments. The Board of Supervisors is presently paid on a per-meeting basis which does not strictly comply with Section 515. The Board of Supervisors therefore desires to reestablish compensation for members of the Board of Supervisors as an annual salary, payable in equal monthly installments. The reestablishment of such compensation will not result in an increase in compensation to members of the Board of Supervisors but will alter the calculation and frequency of payment.
Each Supervisor of Mount Joy Township taking office by election or appointment after January 1, 1996, shall receive compensation for attending duly advertised meetings or executive sessions of the Board of Supervisors and performing other duties as a member of the Board of Supervisors at the rate of one hundred dollars ($100.) per month, or one thousand two hundred dollars ($1,200.) per annum.
No Supervisor shall receive annual compensation under this Article in excess of the annual statutory limit set by the General Assembly in Act 68 (1985) for supervisors of second class townships within the appropriate population category.
Members of the Board of Supervisors whose terms of office commenced prior to January 1, 1996, shall receive compensation in accordance with Ordinance No. LXXXI of the township, enacted December 12, 1985.[1]

This Article shall become effective five (5) days after its enactment as provided by law and shall apply to supervisors, whether newly elected, reelected or appointed, who take office on or after January 1, 1996.
