There is hereby established a Police Department for the Borough,
consisting of a Chief of Police and such other officers and patrolmen
as designated from time to time by the Council of the Borough of Ridley
Park.
The Mayor shall continue to direct the manner in which the persons
assigned to the office shall perform their duties. The Mayor may,
however, delegate to the Chief of Police or other officer supervision
over and instruction to subordinate officers in the manner of performing
their duties.
The Council may from time to time, by motion, fix an hourly
or daily wage to be paid to special policemen, whose appointment is
hereby authorized to be selected by the Mayor during an emergency
in which the safety and welfare of the Borough and the public are
endangered.
The Chief of Police or any other officer appointed in pursuance
of the provisions of this article shall have the power to arrest persons
violating any ordinance of the Borough, the violation of which may
subject persons to arrest, as well as the power of arrest as provided
by law.
Where, by ordinance, heretofore or hereafter enacted by the
Borough of Ridley Park, the Chief of Police of the Borough was or
is authorized or directed to initiate or take action on behalf of
the Borough of Ridley Park, the term "Chief of Police" of the Borough
of Ridley Park shall hereafter be deemed to include the Superintendent
of Public Safety of the Borough of Ridley Park, the Chief of Police
of the Borough of Ridley Park, the Captain of Police of the Borough
of Ridley Park and any other member of the Police Department of the
Borough of Ridley Park authorized to temporarily act in any of said
capacities.
