[Amended 2-17-1993 by Ord. No. 3-1993; 2-18-2015 by Ord. No.
5-2015]
Accumulation of vacation leave beyond that earned
in a calendar year shall be permitted only with the approval of the
department head and the Borough Council. No employee shall be permitted
to accumulate more than a total of five days of unused vacation leave.
An exception to this five-day ruling can be made by an approved resolution
when, in the opinion of the Borough Council, conditions exist where
deferral of vacation is in the community's best interest. The resolution
shall specify the reasons for deferral and shall be subject to annual
review, and, in addition, this accumulated vacation shall be taken
by June 1 of the year following.
Temporary employees shall not be eligible for
vacation leave unless they have been employed for six consecutive
months or more. Part-time employees shall not be eligible for vacation
leave. Accrued vacation leave shall be compensated for when the employee
becomes separated, either voluntarily or involuntarily, from the Borough
service, unless the employee terminates service without giving two
weeks' notice to his/her department head.
Any official holiday occurring during an employee's
vacation leave period shall not be counted as a day of vacation leave
but shall entitle the employee to a substitute day of vacation leave.
