Section 1017-a of Article 9 of the Optional County Government Law is hereby amended by inserting therein a new subdivision, to be Subdivision 16 which shall read as follows:
"16. Medical Examiner; powers and duties; abolishing the Offices of Coroner. The Office of Medical Examiner in and for the County of Monroe is hereby created. The County Executive may appoint the County Health Director as the County Medical Examiner and shall appoint such deputies and other assistants as may be authorized by the County Legislature. The Medical Examiner shall have and exercise within the County of Monroe all the powers and shall perform all the functions and duties prescribed by law for the Office of Coroner. The Offices of Coroner in the County of Monroe is hereby abolished. The terms of office of all Coroners elected and holding office in the County of Monroe at the time this local law becomes effective shall expire upon the appointment and qualification of the Medical Examiner."
