Ord. No. 17.233.
[Added 1-21-1999]
A.
Subject to the direction of the Director of Public
Works, a warning sign shall be placed at any location where a bridge
or overpass of any type crosses a public street. Such sign shall state,
at a minimum, the height of the bridge or overpass and shall be affixed
directly onto the facade of the bridge or overpass or in an area immediately
adjacent to the bridge or overpass.
[Amended 12-4-2014]
B.
The driver and/or the owner of any vehicle that strikes or causes a vehicle to strike a bridge or overpass where the height of the bridge or overpass has been posted in accordance with Subsection A of this section shall be liable for a penalty not to exceed $500 for each and every offense.
C.
The driver and/or the owner of any vehicle that strikes or causes a vehicle to strike a bridge or overpass where the height of the bridge or overpass has been posted in accordance with Subsection A of this section and where decorative art or any other property owned or controlled by the City of Northampton has been placed thereon shall be liable to pay the City of Northampton all of the costs of repair, reconstruction and/or replacement to said decorative art or property. The costs may include, but are not limited to, material, labor and equipment required to repair, reconstruct or replace the damaged property. The Police Department shall cause a ticket to be issued, and thereafter within 30 days of notification by the Police Department that a ticket has been issued, the Coordinator of the Arts Council or the Director of the Department of Public Works shall assess the damage and send a bill for the costs of repair, reconstruction and/or replacement to said driver and/or owner.
[Added 7-20-2000]
A.
Alternate side parking streets shall also be approved
as tow-away zones. Any and all vehicles remaining on the wrong side
