GENERAL REFERENCES
General penalty — See Ch. 1, Art. III.
All dwelling houses, stores or other buildings erected within the Township of Montville shall be numbered in conformity with the street numbers on the Tax Maps of the Township of Montville filed in the office of the Tax Assessor of the Township.
Street numbers shall be assigned, placed on the Tax Maps and allotted to the owners of land by the Township Tax Assessor or such other person as may be designated from time to time by resolution of the Township Committee. When said allotment takes place, said numbers shall be placed upon the official Tax Map of the Township of Montville, and thereafter all persons shall take due notice thereof and shall comply with the provisions of this chapter. The Township Assessor or such other person as may be designated shall also have the power and duty of correcting any errors with respect to assignment and allotment of said street numbers as and when they are discovered.
Upon application by the owner or occupant of land to the Tax Assessor, he shall furnish the correct street number thereto assigned.
Upon any subdivision or resubdivision of land in the Township resulting in a lot or lots other than those delineated on said map, the Township Assessor shall assign a number to each lot resulting from the subdivision or resubdivision, which shall be in proper numerical sequence in relation to the number assigned to other lots fronting on the same street, and he shall record the same upon the said map.
The number so assigned to each building shall be displayed by the owner or occupant on the front of the building or in the front yard of the lot in clearly visible numerals not less than three inches in height and so located as to be clearly visible to persons passing by the premises on the abutting street.
No certificate of compliance shall be issued for occupancy of any building hereafter erected or enlarged unless the provisions of the foregoing section shall have been complied with.

The occupant or owner of any building who shall not comply with the provisions of § 112-5 of this chapter within three months after notice of the number assigned to such building shall, upon conviction thereof, be subject to such penalties as are provided for in Chapter 1, Article III, General Penalty.
