Unless an alternate penalty is otherwise specifically provided, any person committing an offense against any provision of any chapter or article of the Code of the Village of Monticello shall, upon conviction thereof of a violation, be punishable by a fine of not more than $1,000 or by imprisonment for a term not exceeding 15 days, or both; and upon conviction of a misdemeanor, be punishable by a fine of not more than $1,000 or by imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year, or both. The continuation of an offense against any provision of any chapter or article of the Code of the Village of Monticello shall, unless otherwise specifically provided, constitute, for each day the offense is continued, a separate and distinct offense.
